What I'm learning...

I've been participating in The Muse 2008 Online Writing Conference all this week. While it's turning my brain into applesauce, I'm learning a great deal of valuable information.

I think the most important thing I've learned so far this week has been that I do have potential. It isn't coming in form of the typical "ooo"-ing and "aaaah"-ing from people who like to pet the sparkly words on display that I normally encounter. This is coming from people who are in positions to KNOW because, well, they make those kinds of decisions and/or are published authors in houses I would give body parts (my own, even!) to be associated with. While this scares the bejeebers out of me (no big news that I have a fear of success rather than failure), it also has encouraged me in ways I can't ever remember being encouraged before.

I've also learned that my bio sucks (well, it wasn't THAT big of revelation) and a new one will be unveiled just as soon as I clone myself so that I can be doing three or four things simultaneously. :D

I'm still trying to figure out how to blog about my WIPs without (1) killing the story by sharing before it's done or (2) giving the stories away because while I love to share (and will have free stories I never pursue having published), I really would like for people to BUY my stories someday. I'm also still trying to figure out what to blog in general. I'm no expert on writing and don't feel in any way, shape, or form qualified to give advice on the subject so... what SHOULD I blog about?

There's so much more I wanted to include in this entry but I have to scurry off to get groceries now. The family demands that I feed them once in a while. It's a trade off we're working on: I feed them, they let me write. It's mutually beneficial to all parties involved.

Love and bondage,
Rubi Jayne <3
